Pairing of homologous chromosomes is called synapsis. It takes place in zygotene stage of prophase-I of meiosis-I. Prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase are the four stages of mitotic cell division. Chromosome condensation occurs during prophase. Simultaneously, the centrioles move to the opposite poles. During metaphase, spindle fibres attach to kinetochores of chromosomes.
